Woke up at 7am today with the new alarm clock, first actual day in 2018 in sg. Spent the previous 5 days in Tokyo with my sister, key in which was a end of year class party with namba ken. It was nice to meet up with them, 6 people presented and i did too, of various scales, mashu from my year, and others whom have started their own offices or adventures. some with children now. Gordon from my year too, has even started his own office after working for 5 years at Ando sans office. A big topic of the night was CLT and its composition to how true is it to a structural material. It seemed also to be a politically driven material which as a result of government intervention, has gone on to see quite a few CLT factories built in japan. It is funny how in Tokyo, i wonder how much is actually captured across. Namba san started his office at 24, fresh out of school, and also started his teaching at the same time at Osaka university. One thing he did mentioned was that he started blogging way back, and it was for his friends, family, and even clients. The city as a whole still feels quite similar as to when i left it 7 years ago. 2 resolutions for the 2018 are to:
- blog everyday,
- read a new book per week.
- To study about Tom Kundig (6 months), Alejandro Aravena(6 months)
Today i took a sick leave, did the chores like laundry, having a headache now, probably will take a little nap in the afternnoon.
On sg transformation, recommended 3 reads:
